Simple Landscape Projects FAQs

  • Q: What are simple landscape projects?
A: Projects that do not require a design, including sod and seed lawns, lawn repairs, spring and fall cleanups, paver and wall repairs, 1 or 2 shrubs that need to be replaced, shrub trimming and pruning, bulb installation and many more.
  • Q: How do I request an estimate?
A: Go to the estimate request page to request an estimate. You can also call our Northtowns office at 716-835-7434 or our Southtowns office at 716-662-4252.
  • Q: What happens after I request and estimate?
A: A member of our sales team (Roger Restorff, lifetime CNLP or Andrew Palinski, CNLP) will contact you to set up an appointment that is convenient for you.
  • Q: Do you charge for the consultation?
A: The first consultation is free.
  • Q: What will happen at the first consultation?
A: Restorff’s will discuss your project with you, understand your goals, give you our professional advice, and gather the information required to give you an accurate estimate for your project.
  • Q: Is there a charge for an estimate?
A: There is no charge for estimates for jobs that do not require designs.
  • Q: How should I prepare for the first consultation?
A: Think about your goals for the project and determine your budget.
  • Q: How long will it take to receive an estimate?
A: Many estimates for simple projects are ready in 48 hours. We try to turn most projects over within 10 business days.
  • Q: What is the process when I am ready to move forward with the project?
A: You sign the quote and provide a 20% non-refundable deposit. The deposit allows us to order materials and reserve time on the production schedule.
  • Q: When will my project be done?
A: We will give you an approximate installation date. Please note this is an approximate date. There are variables such as weather, employee personal time off (as required by NYS), changes to projects ahead of yours on the schedule, and many others that could shift the date. We will keep you updated as the project gets close.
  • Q: What are the terms?
A: In addition to the 20% non-refundable deposit, the following terms apply:
  • Balance to 50% of project due on start date (30% of project)
  • Balance due upon completion of project

We accept cash or check. To keep our overhead expenses down, WE DO NOT ACCEPT CREDIT CARDS.

  • Q: Is there a charge for a design?
A: There is a charge for estimates that require a design. The design fee is usually paid to Restorff’s Landscape Service before we leave the first consultation and must be paid before the design will be started. 50% of the design fee will be credited towards the project if you move forward with completion of a substantial portion of the project. The design fee will be determined at the consultation based on the amount of time we believe the project will take to design. Please keep in mind that 2025 will be our 39th year in business, and we have a pretty good handle on the time it should take.
  • Q: What is covered by the design fee?
A: The design fee covers the time to complete the design and the following:
    • Custom plan view(s) and a 3-D rendering of your project
    • A detailed estimate of your project including material quantities
    • A plant library
    • An in-person presentation of your project
    • For projects that are less than $7,000, up to 1 hour of time to make revisions after the design is presented is included.
    • For projects over $7,000, up to 2 hours of time to make revisions after the design is presented is included.
  • Q: What if additional revisions are desired?
A: Additional revisions are billed at $75.00 per hour.
  • Q: May I keep the design?
A: You will be able to keep the drawing (plan views), the estimate and the plant library. We can also email you a digital copy of your drawings and renderings.
  • Q: How should I prepare for the first consultation?
A: It is helpful if you have a survey available for us to use (we will return it); determine your budget as this will be part of the discussion during the first consultation; and think about your goals for the project.
  • Q: How do I stay within the included revision time?
A: Be clear on what your goals are and how much you want to invest in your project. This helps us to get close to the final design with the first design.
  • Q: How long will it take to receive our design and estimate?
A: We try to turn most projects over within 10 business days. Some will be faster and large, involved projects can take longer.
